Individual

Don't discriminate me
don’t classify me

Don't try to liberate me
From the quote un-quote curse of individuality

Cuz honestly
I have no interest in being a carbon copy

if you don't like the me of me
then I'm sorry

Cuz I like me just fine
And what really matters is my own mind

If you don't like it, that's tuff
because what's here in my heart is the stuff
That chooses mice from men

It’s about not having to wake up in the morning
Look in the mirror and start wondering

Am I skinny enough?
Am I tall enough?
Do I look good enough?

To make people stop and say, "Oh gee
she sure is pretty"

Or, "Oh my what a guy"
Honestly who set the standards that we're all forced to go by?

Who made the measurements that measure more than just your tummy
but categorize people into good and crummy

who says that if you don’t follow their will
you might as well hop onto the next bus to "Loser Ville"

And pray
That you'll be able to feel good enough about yourself one day

To not constantly want to slit
Your wrist every time someone slips

A joke about you
Being uncool or a total fool
when the truth is they're just as dumb as you

Or even worse
its not having to feel cursed

Cuz you can't fit into your pants anymore
or because everybody thinks you’re not pretty enough to score

a date with the hottest guy you know
Life isn't about putting on a show

Its about the one thing that's really true
you are the perfect version of you

and no one can do you better
That truth tells you that you don't need me or any other

To tell you what’s good enough
because they're not the stuff

that makes you, you I mean, really, who Cares if you paint your toes black?
Or live in a rickety old shack

So what if your bank account isn't quite up to par
or if your mommy and daddy spent their life in a bar

down the road
that we all know ain't quite 'up to code'

It doesn't matter if you're a freak, geek, preppy, or hippy
You were made the way you were meant to be
An individual who’s Free

With the choice
to have a voice

That can thrive
And change lives

People

People
What funny things
the way they change
and grow
like plants of every
shape and size
that can simply
up root
and move about
A cactus of a man
a stout prick if ever
one can be described
A dainty dandelioness
whose thoughts and frame
float with the wind

People
What fickle things
they flow
through years
like river water
never the same today
as they were this day
a year before
nor the way they will be
as time flows
ever forward

People
What frightful things
Creation
for the sake of destruction
great beasts
looming at the top
of earths food chain
Hunting
for the sport of
discourse or
fighting for their love
and life
with hate and death

People
what feable things
who cry and
fear and hope
that todays tomorrow
will be greater
than yesterdays
never knowing
just growing
their strong roots
and flowing
with the sands of time
in hopes to survive
the destruction

The Couch Potato Superhero

Annie was a sweetie pie,
Living her life
In hopes
to find no strife

She loved
With a heart as good as gold
As we all should.
(Though she was a little bold)

Others saw
Her simple ways,
"A couch potato
Is how she spends her days"

Friends are hard to find for her
harder still to keep
A couch potato's pool
is not exactly deep.

But she was more,
than meets the eyes,
More than her and her TV.
She was a super hero in disguise.

Look and you will find
A giant S
written on her
Chest.

Light the signal,
Let it fill the sky.
When you're in need
She is by your side.

When you need her
She is there
Ready and able.
Few others can compare.

A slayer. A shoulder, a jester too
A mirror and a punching bag.
Gatekeeper, Mentor,
Although there is one snag.

When the need
is no longer there
It may seem as if
She does not care

For she goes back to her
Couch Potato's ways
Just as swift
As in her superhero days

Time for Repose

What happened to this world
that caused this shift in time
that which I did once consume in brevity
has now been granted chance
to be cut and quartered
as a daily granted bliss

Ninety Ten

90/10,
90/10 ..
I have to remind myself
every now and then...

Life ain't some easy game
we all win at...
it takes patience &
attention to how we react...

as we all know
shit happens
but we must live on
past the burdens

no this ain't
no easy game...
but its ours
all the same.

10 percent
of life
is the stuff that
gives us hope or strife

90 percent
is how we react
when we're on or off
our desired track

90/10
90/10
I have to remind myself
every now and then...
